Join these master musicians for two sets of improvised music as we welcome percussionist Hamid Drake for his first visit to the new home of Asian Improv aRts Midwest. Born in Monroe, Louisiana, Hamid Drake grew up in Evanston and Chicago, and has long been recognized as one of the leading drummers in the world. He travels to play his music extensively across the globe each year and his visits home are precious few. Last week, he played several concerts in New York as a part of the annual Arts for Art "Vision Festival," where he is also a valued member of the family.

Drake, Aoki and Zerang have known and played with each other for decades and all share a common bond over and relationship to the great saxophonist and composer Fred Anderson and his now-lost Velvet Lounge. Presenter "The Birdhouse Inc." sustains Anderson's legacy by presenting concerts of contemporary creative music and partnering with other organizations that share his lifelong commitment to “patience, sincerity, and consistency.”
