About this event

From the organizers:

We know you are looking forward to seeing Madama Butterfly at Lyric Opera of Chicago. To deepen your experience with this classic opera brought to life in an eye-popping new production, we invite you to Madama Butterfly Opera Insights.

Join in the discussion with Matthew Ozawa, Lyric's Chief Artistic Officer and director of Madama Butterfly, alongside Japanese artists Kyoko Miyabe and Tatsu Aoki, and Northwestern University’s Tara Fickle, as they examine the legacy of this classic opera and explore the importance of retelling and reshaping one-sided narratives. Moderated by Roy Wesley, the panel will delve into meaningful insights and discuss actions we can take in modern society to uphold and honor proud cultural heritages.

As a special part of the program, Ryan Opera Center soprano Adia Evans and pianist Michael Banwarth will perform the aria "Un bel dì" from Madama Butterfly. The conversation will run about 1 hour, including a brief Q&A.

Tickets are free, but seating is limited. RSVP* to secure your seats today.
