About this event

For the last of the spring AIRMW Artist Presentation Series, Haruhi Kobayashi plays her upcoming album Through Monolid Eyes (pending title). Released by the Chicago-based label Monastral, the album represents her explorations of the liminal space between sound art, vocal practice, and empathetic songwriting.

Haruhi Kobayashi is fascinated by the malleability of the medium of sound and its ability to evoke diverse perceptions and sensations. Originally a J-pop singer-songwriter, she now explores the themes of identity, tradition, love, fear and humanity while seeking to liberate sound from its fixed meanings. Her work is an intersection of experimental pop, classical composition and avant-garde songwriting through voice, bass, and electronics. She invites audiences to engage with both familiar and unexpected sonic textures. ---

The first season of the AIRMW Artist Presentation Series highlights our in-house and close collaborative artists. Each person will be presenting their artistic practices with a performative element followed by a discussion moderated by AIRMW Executive and Artistic Director, Tatsu Aoki. Curated & organized by Kioto Aoki.
