Francis Wong (he/him) is a saxophonist and community worker with roots in the Asian American Movement in the 1970s and 80s. He has been professionally active as a musician for over 40 years and is co-founder with Jon Jang of Asian Improv aRts (AIR) in San Francisco and frequent collaborator with Tatsu Aoki of Asian Improv Arts Midwest. His work is documented on over 40 recordings as leader and sideman, and has worked with numerous luminaries in jazz and creative music. He has an abiding commitment to community-based practice, most notably in historic Asian American communities of the San Francisco Bay Area. Since 2017, he has served as Lecturer Faculty in Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University, teaching classes in history, identity, and the arts.
